The only other kind of annotation I do is when I'm reading a history book and something seems blatantly made up. This is because I often descant on things I've read months down the line and I hate losing passages I liked. With a digital copy, though, I tend to highlight as I go if any passages stand out as ones I'd like to refer to later. Hence, with a physical copy I tend to do a couple of readings before deciding a third is worthwhile to go through and truly dissect the book. I generally agree with Nietzsche that you should spend large amounts of time only on that which you find worthwhile.

DIGO READ AND ANNOTATE HOW TO
For many of us who have to annotate though (or who love doing so), the question becomes: how to annotate a book so your marks are done quickly and effectively? Here’s how. They can be expensive and it’s hard not to overthink what’s worth writing down. On the other hand, it’s hard to get over the mental block of writing in books. On one hand, highlighting and writing in the margins is a great way to interact with the text and leave a physical reminder of how a book made you feel at a certain point in time. To annotate or not to annotate: that is the age-old question of avid readers.
